Betula/Birch Tree

0.00

CONDITIONS: Full Sun to partial shade
WATER: Likes more than average amounts of water, moist acidic soil
BLOOM TIME: April
SIZE: wide range depending on species and cultivar
WHERE AND WHY:  Great when planted in a grove or grouping 5-7. Gorgeous in an urban courtyard, too.
THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT IT:  Birches are hard not to love, especially the ones with white bark (Paper Birch), delicate dark green heart shaped leaves that become golden in Fall. Beware of Birch borer, which is an insect that preys on birches, especially stressed ones (not nice!).  River birch are also lovely, multi-stemmed and light brown, and not as prone to the Bronze Birch Borer.
