THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT IT: Sumac is an elegant understated deciduous shrub that performs well year round and needs SO little love to do it's thing. You probably see it by the side of highways and don't even notice it, but it's crazy hardy and does well in soils that other plants can't tolerate. It's not ideal for a small gardens though,  because it's vigorous and will spread.  Turns a fantastic orange/red in the fall. During the winter, the squiggly branching and red fruits (drupes) have a Dr. Seuss-like quality.
